Aasmah Mir (10:30 BST)

Sun, May 12, 2024, 9:30 AM UTC

Aasmah Mir candidly shares the highs and lows of a childhood in 1970s Glasgow, growing up between two cultures - finding that outside the house she was too Asian and was bullied when trying to fit in at school, but retreating to the safe haven of her home she found she was not Asian enough.

By contrast, Mir’s mother, with a self-confidence that came from growing up in cosmopolitan Lahore, had happily agreed to the marriage that brought her to Glasgow in 1966.

A Glasgow Girl reveals parts of the Pakistani immigrant experience rarely seen and reveals how the wheels of progress have turned across two generations - but how they have also got very stuck.

Aasmah Mir is an award-winning broadcaster who has worked in TV and radio for over 25 years. She is the co-presenter of the Breakfast Show on Times Radio.
